Description

oil 23 ½’’X19 ½’’, framed: wood, by Lilita Postaža. Born in June 23, 1941 in Riga, Latvia. In 1971 she graduated from theTextile Art Department of Latvian Academy of Art. Member of the Artist’s Union of the Latvian State from 1972. Since 1967 her works have been exhibited in Latvia and abroad: United States, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Germany, Poland, former Czechoslovakia, Vjetnam, France, former Yugoslavia and other countries. The creative work of Lilita Postaža has been formed and developed at the same time as the school of Latvian textile art. Her stylistic research studies have gone through different ranges: from the interaction of irregular forms and shapes, abstract compositions up to the perfect knowledge of classic tapestry values. Lilita Postaža has confined the subject matter of her art to a man both in action and in harmonious peace. Over the past decade when the ideas of folk-lore and etnography flourished she was inspired by the works of Ansis Cīrulis, Hilda Vīka, Vidbergs and Suta, artists who are most congenial to her among her predecessors in 1930-ies. The folk-lore motifs are seen by her as if through a contemporary’s eyes and her large tapestries began to look like monumental wall paintings. In 1990-s the image of a man has become more abstract, the link between a man and nature – even stronger. At her one-woman show in 1981 she exhibited preparotary tapestry sketches. Now they are translated in contemplative and colorful paintings.SOLD!!! >
